Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist

My name is Angela Tollen and I have been in the preventative holistic health care business for 20 years. My mission is to help as many people as possible to live a pain free life. I attended massage school in 1990 and have continued to look for new ways to help people feel better and live pain free. I have studied with Paul St John and his Neuromuscular Therapy working with posture massage and trigger points to eliminate pain. Beginning in 1991, I attended hands on seminars in Boston and New York.

I've studied with Michael Young and his Muscle Release Technique. I have attended muscle stretching classes and other seminars to increase my knowledge and maintain certification and licensure here in North Carolina. I love my massage practice and the people I have the pleasure of working with.

When we moved to North Carolina in 2004, I applied for my massage license, but was wondering if I would be able to do massage much longer as I was having problems with my hands, pain after just two massages. While waiting for my license, I would browse the book store, always going to the health and fitness section. I came across this book called “Pain Free” by Pete Egoscue. I picked it up and briefly looked through it and put it back on the self. The second time I picked it up I spent a little more time looking through it but still did not buy it. I received my massage license and started working again. Back to book store for the third time I went straight to this book and finally bought it. I immediately did the chapter on hands and within two weeks, my pain was gone. Bio for Egoscue University Student Spotlight

My husband had herniated a disc in our move and received some physical therapy which helped, but the pain was still there. So I suggested he try the chapter for low back pain. That took him one step better. That was it for me. I wanted to know more about Egoscue. Found them online and discovered they offered training. I attended Level I in 2005 and became certified January 2006. Certified Level II in 2008. Completed a Coaching week on the floor of main clinic in San Diego. After my training, I created a menu of exercises designed for my husband and that was the final piece. He is dedicated to the posture exercises and does them daily. The rest is history. My husband is pain free, I am pain free and growing my business.

There is nothing more exciting than watching a client who had 5 right knee surgeries and 4 left knee surgeries and started having left knee pain again, and after 3 weeks of Egoscue exercises, she was pain free. She was referred to me by a member of my BNI group (networking group). He had not used me before but now is coming to see me for shoulder pain. After his first session, He was more in alignment and felt a difference in his body. These are two young professionals who are very physically active, now have balanced bodies without pain. Just think of the problems they will avoid as they age. I have worked with kids and people in their 60ʼs & 70ʼs. Some have more challenges than others, but once they do the work, they see the results.

I am very excited about Posture Alignment Therapy, and Egoscue and the support they offer. I look forward to helping people live an active lifestyle regardless of age. Helping people achieve their goal is very satisfying. This is the best work I have ever done.
