Few people at age sixteen know what they want to do when they grow up. A car accident introduced me to my future physical therapy profession at age twelve. My neck injuries and headaches were not completely resolved until I was introduced to the Egoscue Method many years after I became a physical therapist. Always searching for new pain relieving techniques and thought processes, I was astounded to hear from my brother-in-law that he was back on the golf green with his arthritic knees. My husband, Michael, had given him exercises without success. He told us we had to buy a book by a guy named Pete Egoscue called Pain Free. We studied the book and started using the exercises with personal and clinical success. But Pete’s radio show treatment, with instant pain relief on the air, was the final push we needed to go to Del Mar for PAS 1.

Over the years, my choices in continuing education courses changed the way I practiced. CranioSacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, Therapeutic Touch and a multitude of traditional PT courses, especially Muscle Energy Technique, add different dimensions to the way I care for people. The communication/connection aspect of working with clients/patients is rarely the major point of a course in my field. Claiming the patient knows more than the therapist is not a popular theme in a profession that now requires a doctorate. But the patient/client does know more; the body will “tell us” if only we will listen and act on the intelligently designed wealth of anatomy and knowledge within. PAS 2 ushered me through a major communication/connection paradigm shift that will benefit me in almost every aspect of my life. The staff at Egoscue University is exceptional in their teaching and caring skills.

My husband and I own a private practice near West Chester, PA. We call the method fueled by Egoscue University ‘The Painfree Program.’ I use Pain Free and Pain Free at Your PC as recommended reading and home program material for my patients. The marriage of physical therapy and the Painfree Program has been an exciting progression and a tremendous success for our patients. I would like to see more "clients" in the non-medical, ‘Painfree’ model of care before they get to the physical therapy, “patient” stage. Helping people grow to achieve their goals is a satisfying experience. Watching ‘the light go on’ is a real thrill.
